Mothership HackerMoms is an innovative early-stage startup hackerspace geared at creative, maker and entrepreneurial mothers of all genders. We believe in including student and community partners in the process of developing our business and programs in order to truly be a community experience. In exchange for your help and expertise, we offer job experience, a resume builder, exposure to hacker/maker culture and a chance to part of an exceptional network for social change. About Mothership HackerMoms: We are a women’s hackerspace that gives our community the time and space to explore DIY craft and design, hacker/maker culture, community workshops, entrepreneurship and all manner of creative expression — with on-site childcare. Our Hacker Sprouts program teaches children the creative process through educational childcare and STEAM-based workshops. HackerMoms creates families that build together.

Entrepreneurial Project/Production Management Intern

Mothership HackerMoms (MSHM), a hackerspace in Berkeley made for creative and entrepreneurial mothers, seeks an intern Project/Production Manager for a new entrepreneurial project of MSHM involving car design. This position will support a 5-person design team to track schedules, deliverables and details as we move through phases of research, use cases, modeling, prototyping and fabrication in a startup-like environment. We’re seeking a reliable, detail-minded business, law or design-oriented intern with a sense of adventure and curiosity, a progressive sensibility and a drive towards completion to be an essential part of this unique project. Knowledge of cars helpful but not essential. You will gain exposure and experience in the following areas:

  • Ideation and design process toward a tangible goal via human-centered design process (HCD)
  • Entrepreneurial, bootstrapping business development from scratch
  • Practical, tactical project and people management skills
  • Exposure to the unique, indie hacker/maker culture, entrepreneurs, inventors, designers and fabricators.
  • Industry research and outreach
  • Contract creation and negotiation

Desired Major(s)-

Graduate Business School, Undergraduate Business Administration/Marketing, Business Administration/Communications; Law school; Design, Industrial Design

Required Qualifications-

• Student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree in business administration, design, marketing, public relations, communications, nonprofit management or a related field

• Be a bossy but nice ball buster with fearless people and project management skills

• Must possess strong communication skills written and oral

• Strong recordkeeping skills for project tracking

• Strong Research skills

• Motivated Self-starter able to manage multiple tasks

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (word, excel, power-point), and ideally Trello project management web application

• Effective interpersonal communication skills

• Ability to work in a team or independently as needed

• Strong knowledge of Social Media platforms and tools

Business Strategy Intern

We seek Business Strategy Interns to help chart out short and long term growth strategies for our unique, women and mother-focused organization that we are currently bootstrapping. This may include researching corporate legal structures, funding strategies and developing business, financial and revenue models. Knowledge or prior entrepreneurial experience running your own company or small business is a huge plus.

Marketing/PR Intern

We are currently seeking Marketing and Public Relations interns to advise, guide and help develop a comprehensive marketing program and system to support the outreach efforts of about Mothership HackerMoms. Your expertise may assist us in areas such as special projects, prospect lists, research, development of marketing materials, social media, sponsorship packages, press releases, website press page, media contacts, email promotions, graphic design. This would be an ideal position for a third or fourth year marketing communications major with an interest in business development.

REQUIREMENTS

* Marketing expertise, solid ideas and willingness to take initiative

* Ability to work in creative collaborative partnerships

* Excellent writing, research and communication skills

* Confident interpersonal people skills

* Proficiency in navigating the internet, email and its marketing avenues.

* Knowledge of WordPress plus graphics software like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and inDesign a plus.

* Familiarity with hacker/maker culture is a plus

Social Media Intern

We seek Social Media interns to join our small marketing team to help develop our fundamental our social media strategy. This may include content creation, analytics, and project management. Candidates must be self-starters and fearlessly resourceful. Innovative thinkers who can demonstrate unique problem-solving abilities and efficient, organized work habits will be our most desired candidates.

Duties

-Social media management: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, RedRover, etc.

-Reviewing our WordPress website for social media opportunities

-Online research to inform overall campaign strategy

-Content creation for a range of marketing materials

-Designing and implementing promotions/giveaways

-Analyzing performance data

Non Profit Management Intern

We currently seek Non-profit Management Intersn for a part-time internship. These interns will work closely with senior staff on the administrative aspects of the program, including but not limited to: donor cultivation, database management, program development, project management and community outreach. Here are desired skills and areas of support:

• Interest or background in non-profit work and management

• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

• Ability to work independently and in a variety of capacities

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse groups of people

• Ability to commit to 10-15 hours a week for three months

• Conducting outreach visits and events to cultivate community partnerships

• Supporting the implementation of MSHM volunteer program

• Coordinating and expanding MSHM Court Monitoring program

• General support duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications-

•  Students majoring in nonprofit management or working towards a Masters in nonprofit management are a plus. However, if you have no direct nonprofit management background, please explain any comparable experience or interest.

•  Interest or experience in leadership in the development & implementation of proficient and creative nonprofit fundraising plans and grant writing.

•  Interest or experience in research and grant writing to develop charity plans that are geared towards children, teens, and adults.

•  Interest or experience in non profit coordination, including understanding the charity/nonprofit environment and being aware of industry changes.
